If you are a mother, may I suggest a perfect way to celebrate your child’s birthday? Find yourself a friend who has just that week returned from New Mexico where she finished Birthing From Within training. Sit outside with her on a beautiful June day that just happens to be the anniversary of the day you birthed your child, and tell her your birth story. All right, that’s all I’m going to say about that.

The scientist and the romantic

Wow!
Is this not the most stunning thing you’ve ever seen?
As you may have heard, archaeologists recently discovered this late Neolithic double-burial. According to the news reports, double-burials from that time period were rare. Huggers, non-existent. Archaeologists are removing them all in one piece to preserve their position, and hope to learn something new about Stone Age society in the process.
Lordy, Lordy, look who’s . . .
ELEVEN!

And what a great kid he is. Hilarious, talented, wise beyond his years, generous, silly, greedy, impatient, curious, smart as a whip, tenderhearted, and oh, did I mention hilarious?
Happy birthday, darling!
I can’t believe I’m posting this

So here we are, circa 1983. Les on the left, me in the middle, and John on the right. May I point out:
How I spent my summer vacation, by A. Bookworm
I guess a photoessay is in order, because I could never do it justice with mere words. So here are the highlights of our week at Camp Michigania.
I. Proof that I actually went to summer camp
Yes, I made these lanyards with my own two hands, using the “twisted box stitch with multiple strands” technique. Impressive, huh?

. . . can’t live without ‘em!
My husband Steve is the dearest, sweetest, funniest, person I’ve ever met. He is loving and supportive and considerate in every way, not to mention easy on the eyes! ;) Really, in all the important ways we are about as compatible as two people can be: our energy levels, our attitude towards money, our ideas about parenting, dream vacations, the things that matter, the things that don’t matter, all that good stuff.
Happy birthday, darling

Daniel is three today!
And what a perfect excuse to get on my homebirth soapbox.
When Daniel was just a couple of months old we thought he might have an ear infection and I took him to the ER.
