Dreamin’
Such a dream I had last night!
We bought this great big old house. The reason we could afford it was because it was located not in super-expensive Ann Arbor but in some very small town in Missouri. Does anyone else have dreams about architecture? In my dream we were exploring the house, going from room to room, admiring the details. There were built in bookshelves and cabinets, a perfect kitchen, woodwork to die for, oh my gosh the master bathroom… There were three full stories plus a finished attic with nooks and crannies like you wouldn’t believe. Exterior views were also included: light blue clapboard, tons of windows, trees, nice neighborhood. The whole family was so happy and excited.
Quick update
Joey is doing great! Two days ago he had surgery on his nose — outpatient, but with general anaesthetic — and it went really well. The doctor told us he’d be in a lot of pain, but he didn’t even want ibuprofin, let alone the prescription painkillers. And just in case you had any lingering doubts, that same evening Joey regaled us all with some wicked potty humor at the dinner table.

So, the other day I learned something astonishing, simply astonishing. My friend Les told me that her Nutrition professor told her the real reason why pirates wear eye patches. Not that they’ve lost an eye, no. It’s so they can keep one eye always adjusted to the dark. If they suddenly have to go belowdecks all they have to do is switch the patch to the other eye and lo and behold they can see just fine. Can you believe it?

Oh, God. This is so NOT the post I was planning to write today. I have tons to write about, but it all blew out of my head when I got out of the shower this morning and heard my cat meowing urgently. There was an unfamiliar note in his meow that worried me. I finished getting dressed and went to investigate. It sounded like he was in the basement, and sure enough there he was at the bottom of the basement stairs, heaven help us, eating a dead bird. I could hear the bones crunching.
