I (re)read "Julie of the Wolves" and wasn't thrilled. I'm going to seek out "And Tango Makes Three" for my 5 year old. :-)

What about The Handmaid's Tale or To Kill a Mockingbird? Or Slaughterhouse Five. Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth is terrific. Or, since it's October, what about Cujo, Carrie, or The Dead Zone?

Catcher in the Rye? That was banned for a while, wasn't it? I haven't read it for a while but was thinking the other day that it's a perfect autumn-y book...

This is what I get for not doing daily blog rounds. Only NOW do I see I missed banned books week. Serendipitously, I read in Sunday's paper about a controvery in the Grand Rapids school district...apparently the new American Lit. anthology they ordered contains an excerpted (and Pulitzer-winning?) play with a lot of foul language.

They are debating whether, if they can't return the books for a refund, to *cut out* the offensive pages.
