Quick update

Joey is doing great! Two days ago he had surgery on his nose — outpatient, but with general anaesthetic — and it went really well. The doctor told us he’d be in a lot of pain, but he didn’t even want ibuprofin, let alone the prescription painkillers. And just in case you had any lingering doubts, that same evening Joey regaled us all with some wicked potty humor at the dinner table.

What? You want details?

Ok. Remember “he who smelt it, dealt it”? (Yes, for some reason this phrase was mentioned at our dinner table. Ahem.) Well, Joey came up with some alternate versions. Luckily, I took notes:

  • He who nosed it, composed it
  • He who smelled it, expelled it
  • He who detected it, ejected it
  • He who noted it, emoted it
  • He who scented it, vented it

Actually, a couple of those were Steve’s. Anyway, as you can see, Joey seems to have made a complete recovery. And if anyone would like to add to the list, please feel free!

I am so glad he is doing well. And now I will always be thinking of fart jokes as an indicator of health.

Did an olfactory experience that indicates he has no lasting damage to his nasal sensors preceed the aforementioned round of poetic blaming?

Glad to hear he’s his usual self. I’ve been thinking of him and you lots lately.

And I guess I told his story nearly verbatim to my kids (what? pass up this cautionary tale?) because the elder has been using the word “exhilerating” a lot lately!

Veronica, yes, “fart jokes” is one of the first diagnostic procedures they teach in medical schools. Or if it isn’t, it should be.

    Liesl, thanks!

Doulicia, ahem, no. The discussion was purely academic, I assure you. I’m glad he’s using the word, by the way. I just hope he’s spelling it correctly. ;)

Sounds like dinnertime hasn’t changed much in the old neighborhood. The good ones were all taken, but how ’bout:

    - he who snorted it, deported it
    - he who sniffed it, whiffed it

I bet rhymzone.com would be surprised to find out how it is being used.

    Turtlebella, Inkling, thanks. :)

Sara, maybe you could work this in to next year’s poetry unit?
