do I need another reading project.
Penguin Classics seemed like such a good idea, but frankly I’m a little intimidated by the next one on the list. It’s La Regenta by Leopoldo Alas, a big fat obscure 19th century Spanish novel. Interlibrary loan only allowed me to have it for, like, ten days — as though anyone could read that thing in ten days. So I went and bought me a copy, and it’s been sitting unopened on my shelf (not even on my bedside table, notice) for a couple of months. And I’ve completely lost my head of steam on Brothers K, too.
Slaves of Golconda? What a great idea, too — but I’ve totally let that slide. I don’t even know what they’re reading any more, if in fact they are still doing it at all.
And Kate‘s short story group? I really wanted to do that, and I’m on the email list, but I haven’t managed to read even one of the stories they discussed. Not one.
So I really have no business joining another online book discussion group, but when doulicia proposed starting a group blog for discussing books that won the Newbery award — oooh, how fun that would be!
The new blog is here, and you are all welcome to join.

That blog looks fun. I didn’t know you were reading Brothers K–DJDuncan is from around here, and he was one of my high school hero authors. Got to hear him read a few times. I loved The River Why, but I don’t think I quite got Brothers K, not having read much Russian Literature yet, or understood what I read. It would be interesting to revisit that one. You are ambitious with all these projects.
Ooh, thanks for mentioning the Newbery books group. I’m so into YA and children’s lit right now, I have to look into it.
Yeah, that Newbery group looks great! Not sure if I’ve got the time for it either though….

Still going, and missing you.
Come back. Jane Austen is up.
