You’d think that after ten eleven years of being a mom nothing much would faze me any more. But Daniel, my three-and-a-half year-old, never fails to throw me for a loop. His latest enthusiasm? Elisha Cuthbert.
Here she is: Elisha Cuthbert. You might recognize her as the actress who played Jack Bauer’s daughter Kim on the tv show 24. Daniel loves her. He draws pictures for her. He paints pictures of houses (okay, they look like big blobs, but he says they’re houses) that he is going to live in with her. She rides in his toy firetrucks to the scene of the pretend fire. She stands behind him and helps direct the spray of the pretend hose. More often than not, he addresses me as Elisha. I have to pretend to be her.
When Daniel addresses me as Elisha I must — must! — respond by calling him Tyler. Check him out: Tyler Kyte.
Elisha and Tyler were co-hosts of a tv show, Popular Mechanics for Kids. It is available on DVD, and one of the episodes — the only one we’ve seen — is all about rescuing. Much grist for the mill of our rescue vehicle-obsessed little guy. It’s been weeks since we returned the video to the store and still he’s pretending I’m Elisha.
Enough, already! This is embarrassing.

Oh my heavens! That is adorable! If my son had seen that DVD, I could envision him playing the exact same game…
Well, at least it wasn’t because he was watching 24!!
That is the name I’m leaning toward (not Tyler or even Elisha, Daniel.)
Adorable!
Just thought, for a bit of perspective, this might be of interest — these are photos of Ms. Cuthbert as Daniel knows her:

I think it adds a new dimension, of some sort, to the humor of Daniel having this “crush” to think on how the sultry starlet of today was the cute teen of a few years ago.
Hey, I know how he feels, I do exactly the same thing, only I have my wife pretend she’s Elisha.
