Under pressure

After much soul-searching I finally succumbed to strongly-worded requests from two of my favorite lurkers (Hi, Mom! Hi, Sheila!) and created a new skin with the sidebar on the side instead of the bottom. The hardest part? The brown background. I think brown just might be my favorite color — and note the velvety texture, too.

Yep, as you can see I’ve been making good use of my free time. :)

[Later: whoops, just discovered the sidebar is dropping "below the fold" in Win/IE5. Surprise, surprise. Will fix in the morning later. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: please get Firefox.]

[Even later: sidebar fixed. :) ]

Very nice, as usual! I’d love to be able to lounge about like the woman in the painting.

Oh, my goodness, I LOVE it. The color is so rich, and the image is FANTASTIC. And, once again, I’ll echo: IE sucks.

Julie, it’s beautiful. I may just pop by more often just to gaze at the picture. You are supremely talented, my friend.

Uh, no, Melissa, that would be Sir Edward Burne-Jones who is supremely talented. But I will accept the compliment on his behalf. ;)

  8. I meant to just say, “Love the new look! Nice to have that painting as a part of this blog. I’ve enjoyed seeing this ’skin’ develop (also-see comment about Liesl’s new blogskin).”–but I have to say something more about the painting:

I first became aware of the pre-Raphaelites recently (couple of years ago) so I still get a little thrill from seeing them (and tossing off that name oh-so-casually). I hadn’t seen this particular work before, so double thrill.

I guess as art goes, they may not be ‘important’ in a for-the-ages way–they didn’t forever change our way of seeing things–but I can easily lose myself in the feel of them. They are somehow comforting and comfortable–not usually the characteristics of ‘important’ art.

    But so what?

I haven’t played it in years, but I like Pachelbel’s Canon, too. What’s wrong with a little comfort-food now and then?

    What books would be comparable?

Ooh, I love this too–dark chocolate. I too have a painting of a girl who looks just like me from a similar era. I’ll have to find the artist and show you.

What a lovely skin. So rich. I’ve been getting into browns lately (finally finding colours that suit my complexion) in clothes so I particularly enjoy your chocolate here!

I love the colors and textures you’ve chosen. So soothing. I was just talking to Suzanne yesterday, and we were both saying that it’s amazing the variety of styles you come up with for different sites. If you look at your portfolio, it’s not at all obvious that one person is behind all the different “looks.”

Oh, and I took your advice and got Firefox and Woo Hoo!!

The new look is beautiful. I love the painting at the top. I wonder if I can find a print of it somewhere…

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I actually found this picture several months ago. The instant I saw it I knew it would be my next blogskin, although it took me a while to get around to finishing the project. Kate, if you find a print of it let me know, because I’d like one too.
