We’re going to camp!

Yes, the Bookworm Family is going to camp. Do not misunderstand. We are not “going camping.” I don’t “go camping.” I have never slept in a tent in my entire life, and don’t ever intend to. This probably makes me even uncooler than I already am, but the fact remains: I like my creature comforts. Yes, I love nature and all that wilderness survival stuff, but only in the abstract. I’ll take my vacation in a plush hotel, thank you very much.

Well, we’re not going to be in a plush hotel next week. We’re going to camp. Family camp. If you went to summer camp when you were a kid, it was probably pretty similar to this. I went to summer camp when I was a kid and it was pretty similar to this. You can even make lanyards, for chrissake. We will spend next week living in a cabin, eating Gordon’s Food Service off of plastic trays in the “dining hall,” sleeping on sandy sheets, slapping away the mosquitos.

So why do we subject ourselves to this? Oh ho! Because guess what? They have separate programming for the kids! All day long the kids, even the 3yo, will be off with their age-mates, under the careful and loving supervision of college students, doing summer camp stuff like canoeing, horseback riding, arts & crafts, swimming, etc., etc. And all day long my dear hubby and I will be going sailing by ourselves, reading, relaxing, making lanyards, etc., etc. Need I say more? Isn’t this better than the plushest hotel?

Anyway, we’ll be gone all next week, so no blogging. In fact, I haven’t been able to do any blogging this week, either, because I’ve been running around like the proverbial chicken: trying to finish a big project and get ready for camp at the same time. I look forward to catching up with the blogosphere when we return.

I’m with you, Julie. I don’t camp. A 5-star hotel is my idea of roughing it.

Hope you have a great time!

P.S. I gave you a plug on my recent post - thanks again!

My husband and I run a camp/retreat center but it is a 5 star camp ground — real bathrooms and mattresses, even wonderful wallpaper and decorations. There are places to pitch a tent for those who like to rough it, but I am with you — motels with maids! Have a fabulous time!

Someone on one of the (too) many TV shows I watch said, “Roughing it for me is going to a hotel where the sheets are less than 300 thread count.” And I’d have to heartily agree. But the sailing and private time alone with the hubby sound divine - can’t wait to read all about it when you get back!

What a sweet picture, and we also listened to Jeeves all the way to CO and back–funny, but we decided we would like them better as plays.
