We’re going to camp!

Yes, the Bookworm Family is going to camp. Do not misunderstand. We are not “going camping.” I don’t “go camping.” I have never slept in a tent in my entire life, and don’t ever intend to. This probably makes me even uncooler than I already am, but the fact remains: I like my creature comforts. Yes, I love nature and all that wilderness survival stuff, but only in the abstract. I’ll take my vacation in a plush hotel, thank you very much.

Parenting tip: heatwave survival strategy

On the first really hot day, invite your dad to go out for ice cream along with yourself and the kids. Have a really good time. Have such a good time that Grandpa spontaneously — and without thinking about the consequences — offers to repeat the outing on any day that the temperature is over 90.

True colors

Veronica tagged me for this hilarious meme. And she was right to tag me because I am such a poser.

Movies I rented because the cool people liked them, but I never could finish:

And speaking of foreign countries,

I sure felt like I was in one today.

Ever since I got a new bike last May I’ve been feeling really, you know, buff. Because I ride it to the Dairy Queen instead of driving there. Also? I can swim laps. Lots of laps. What European City Do You Belong In?

As seen at Linda‘s.

Handle with care

I received the joyful news that an ILL book I’d ordered so long ago that I almost forgot about it had finally arrived. It was Kate‘s recommendation: The Sacrifice, by Adele Wiseman. It came from the library of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI — the farthest distance yet that I’ve had an ILL book come from.

. . . can’t live without ‘em!

My husband Steve is the dearest, sweetest, funniest, person I’ve ever met. He is loving and supportive and considerate in every way, not to mention easy on the eyes! ;) Really, in all the important ways we are about as compatible as two people can be: our energy levels, our attitude towards money, our ideas about parenting, dream vacations, the things that matter, the things that don’t matter, all that good stuff.
