It's the beginning of the Frog Prince. The frog offers to retrieve the ball for the weeping princess, and in exchange she must befriend him, eat meals with him, sleep with him, and (eventually) kiss him. At first she doesn't want to live up to her end of the bargain, and at one point even throws the frog against the wall, but her royal father scolds her soundly and requires her to live up to her end of the bargain. Reluctantly, she does. She kisses him and poof! he turns into a prince. Gotta love those Brothers Grimm!

I can't remember where the golden ball in the well reference comes from! How can I be so out of touch?

Even better than a reading kid is a kid who makes connections and analogies. Not to mention a kid who delights in deadpan humor.
