This morning Lena was talking about studying phonics in school. They were supposed to figure out the beginning and ending sounds of words. “And you know what, Mom?” she said proudly. “There was something that only Miss Smith and I knew, out of the whole class!”
That’s my girl, I thought smugly, puffing up my narcissistic chest and basing my self-esteem upon my children’s achievements. Yep, my kid is the smartest in the whole class!
“Yeah,” said Lena. “Only Miss Smith and I knew that the ending sound of brass is the a-word!”

Sounds like she’s somehow gotten ‘behind’ in her studies.
Bookworm Dad
What a smarty!
You should be proud. It’s not every kid who can find the nasty bits in words.
LOL. Oh, boy, aren’t kids wonderful?
hehehe!
That is hilarious! I am pretty sure with my sailor’s vocabulary that it is only a matter of time before my kids distinguish themselves in class.
Aw, she done ya proud!
Too funny. But you know, it is usually the smart kids that pick up on those things–I have to avoid their eyes at times.
Luckily I wasn’t drinking anything when I read that post, otherwise it’d've come out my nose! I’ve already had that conversation with the pre-school teachers…
Very perceptive girl you have there!
Lol, Bookworm Dad. :D
Hmmm, the consensus seems to be that I should be proud rather than embarrassed. Okay, I can live with that. :)
And thanks, Dad!
Yes, you should! I tried to post, but BLogger shut down for maintenance and my commment was lost. (Enjoyed your husband’s pun, so be prepared for her to also recognize “push” and “tush” lol.)
I wrote a professional commendation of you two as parents and your daughter’s ability to recognize the same ending sounds as if I was writing a report. It’s gone now and was full of too much technical jargon.
Bottomline (ouch, I’m doing it, too)… is what you already know! She’s very language oriented auditorally and visually, no doubt from genetics and the environment at home! I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology…. Apart from that, there is the “animal” to think of, not just the body part. However, I’m a believer that all words are for learning. It’s how and when (or if) the words are used. I’m proud of her.
