A brief and bitter digression into politics

“Hey, look, honey,” I said to Steve the other day, “I found a funny typo in the paper. It says President Bush is on vacation for five weeks! Ha, ha, they said weeks instead of days!”

You read it right, it’s weeks, not days. He specializes in vacations and gets more than any teacher I know. He would never make it as a teacher - he could not stand the pace.

I’m sure he’s spending quality family time, which is a noble cause.

Not only that, Guusje, but (*snorting with laughter*) if he was a teacher he’d be screwed because there’s no way his students would meet the No Child Left Behind standards.

Right, Laura, because he clearly cares so much about the quality of our lives.

Where is all this sarcasm coming from? I do apologize, friends. This isn’t like me, usually. Talking about the shrub just brings out the worst in me, I guess. I should never have brought up the topic. Again, I apologize.

Hey, it’s hard work, being president. It’s hard, very hard. Hard work.

    What a goob.

In Time yesterday, there was a blurb about Bush having Lance Armstrong over to go biking. Time described them both as “avid cyclists with a casual interest in politics.” And at the end, it suggested that “for his next play date, we think the President should try roller hockey with the G-8.”

    I thought of you.

Well he finally came back from vacation. It took a category 5 Hurricane to do it but the shrub finally decided it was time to go back to work. To bad the entire Gulf Coast had to suffer to remind him what he was elected (but not by me) to do.
